Keep Our Firefighters

In a system already overloaded, Keizer residents will lose twenty dedicated firefighters if these measures pass. Supporters claim they will hire three firefighters.

Keep Our Ambulances

If these measures pass, Keizer residents will lose one 24-hour ambulance. Emergency calls will take longer and residents will be the ones who pay the price.

Keep Keizer Safe

Keizer residents can’t afford longer response times, fewer firefighters and less ambulance service. Longer response times may mean the difference between losing your garage or losing your entire home. Fewer firefighters mean it will be harder to put down a fire quickly. Less ambulance service means residents will suffer because the help they need just won’t be there.

Facts About These Measures

Supporters of these measures are talking about saving money and “letting Keizer serve Keizer” but the facts are:

  • These measures will save homeowners in Clear Lake about $4/month. For the cost of a cup of coffee for homeowners in one residential area, the entire city will lose firefighters, ambulance service and it will take longer for firefighters to respond in an emergency. That doesn’t save money.
  • Keizer Fire District, like every other fire district, routinely relies on help from other firefighters sometimes. Marion County Fire District #1 has been serving Clear Lake and the Keizer area for over 70 years faithfully and capably.
  • Whether or not the Clear Lake area wants to be a part of Keizer is now being decided on by the entire city, not those residents. That’s unfair.
  • The Keizer Fire District is facing a budget shortfall and this forced annexation looks like an attempt by them to raise more revenue for their department. It’s not about service; it’s about money.
